checking in at the airport in the us

Question

I am traveling from the US to Shanghai then to HK a 24 hour layover but I'm concerned about boarding the flight in the US to Shanghai.  How do I ensure getting on the flight without the Visa?

You can just go to the airport and board the flight. If you are required to show your visa, you can explain the situation and say you want to use the 24 hour direct transit in China. In this case, it will be ok.
