About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

We will be flying into Shanghai directly from Chicago.

We will be in Shanghai for about 26 hours and then travel on a cruise to 2 other countries for 5 days and then return to Shanghai for about 36 hours before flying from Shanghai directly back to Chicago. Can we use the 72 hour visa waiver twice...once before the cruise and once after? Do they count just the time in the country or the entire cruise too?

Sara, you can use the 144hrs free transit before the cruise and after that.
