About:China Visa

Chicago-Shanghai-Guam. Do I still need a VISA?

US citizen traveling from Chicago with a transit at Shanghai (9-hr overlay) then continue on to Guam, USA.

I'm afraid you need it because it seems you depart from US and then back to the US after the transit in Shanghai. If you do not go through the immigration in Shanghai, you may not need it, but I'm not sure. You had better contact the airline to confirm this.
