About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

im planning on flying from lax to tokyo changing planes in Podong shanghai

im planning on flying from lax to tokyo, I have to change planes at pudong airport in Shanghai, am I allowed to do a 3 day layover with No Visa ? How would I do this, what do I need to know ?

Yes, you are allowed. You need to inform that airlines that you want to use the 72 hour free transit in Shanghai when you board the plane in Japan. After arrival, you can go to the transit counter in Shanghai airport to apply for the free transit there.
