About:How to Travel to China without a Visa

I am a Kenyan national traveling from Dubai to Bangkok via wuhan.

Am I eligible for a temporary visa to leave the airport and check into a hotel before my connecting flight which is 18 hours later?

If so, you are eligible for the 24 hour direct transit in Wuhan. You can apply for a temporary stay permit at the airport, and then you can leave the airport to stay at a hotel.
