About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Registration in local police station

I will have a flight transfer in Shanghai for 18 hours (flying from Amsterdam to Melbourne)
If I leave the airport for a city trip from 08.00 until 20.00 using 144 hour visa-free transfer, should I need to register at a local police station?

If your time in China is less than 24 hours, you are exempt from police registration.
