Traveling from Chongqing, by train and bus

End January/begin February, we would like to depart from Chongqing (with two persons), visiting Shangri-La, Lijiang and Dali. I think I found out that with the most convenient way, we should travel through Kunming. In that case, we would also like to go to Dongchuan, for their red land.

In the end, we would want to end in Jinghong, so we can later continue our travel to Laos.

Do you have any advice on whether this is possible and what might be the best way to do it? Keeping in mind we would of course like to travel for a nice price.

Thanks!

Yes, it is feasible. You may arrange your itinerary this way: Chongqing-Kunming (Dongchuan Red Land)- Shangri-la- Lijiang- Dali (DL for short)- Jinghong.

Take a train to Kunming from Chongqing Railway Station (about 18 hours). A hard sleeper costs CNY 244.5; a soft sleeper costs CNY 381.5. Take a bus to Fazhe from Kunming North Bus Station, and get off at Dongchuan Red Land. You can follow the same route back to Kunming.

Next, take a bus to Shangri-la from Kunming South Bus Station (about 10 hours). The buses are available from 8:30 to 20:30, and the fare is CNY 208 to 249.

Then, ride a bus from Shangri-la to Lijiang (about 3 hours). After that, take a bus from Lijiang to DL. The buses are available from 7:10 to 19:00, and the fare is CNY 56 to 88. The trip takes about 3 hours. Finally, take a bus to Jinghong from DL East Bus Station. The buses depart at 8:20, 9:40, and 11:00. The fare is CNY 199. ;)
