How can I convert my student visa to a marriage residence permit?

Hi there. I'm a student currently studying in Hangzhou, China. I'm getting married to my girlfriend who is from Lishui, Zhejiang province but lives permantly in Hangzhou. Can I get a marriage residence permit? If so, what happens to my student X type? Do I need to apply from outside China or I can simply apply from within China? And how long can I get if my application goes through?

Angelo, after you get married, you can apply for a spouse Q1 type which will allow you to get the residence permit for marriage, but your student X type will be voided then. You can try to convert the student X type to the Q1 type at the exit and entry administration of the local PSB within China. Usually, you need to wait for 7 working days to get the result after you submit the application.
