Air travel with a short stop in Guangzhou

Hi there, we are travelling to Australia in December as a British family with full UK passportsto see relatives in Australia. Out stop is for five hours in Guangzhou and we would like to see the sights of the city if possible. Can we leave the airport for a few hours without a tourist L type or do we need to apply for a visa upon arrival in China?

Many thanks..

Cassidy, yes, you can. You are eligible for the 24 hour direct transit in Guangzhou. If you want to leave the airport, you can just apply for a temporary stay permit which is free of charge at the airport. Afterwards, you can leave the airport to the city, but you just have 5 hours, I’m afraid time is not enough for you to visit the city.
