What were the Northern Song Dynasty political achievements?

During Northern Song Dynasty, the leadership of the military was totally grasped in the hand of the emperors which strengthen the centralization of the nation.
On the other hand, emperors valued literature over the military. So many renowned poems and literati were appointed important title at the court.
