Visa for Hong Kong and Shanghai for 2 people

My husband and I will be cruising to Hong Kong and also Shanghai, China, both only for one day each (no overnight stay). How do get an entry permit? Do I have to travel to Sydney to get it, or can it be done online? Can I apply for one on behalf of my husband as well?? We will be in Hong Kong on 3 April 2017 and Shanghai on 6 April 2017. We only need one for this cruise. When should I apply for it? Many thanks. Audette (Pearce)

Audette, Australian passport holders can enjoy free entry to HK fro a stay of not more than 90 days, so no entry permit will be needed.
Actually, if the cruise will sail to a third country or region instead of the last one it came from after staying for less than 24 hours in Shanghai, you two may be able to enjoy the 24 hour direct transit in Shanghai; in this case, no entry permit will be needed. But you’d better confirm that with the cruise ship company.
If the cruise ship company says that you need a visa for that, you cannot apply for it online. You need to apply for it from the CVASC in Sydney. You should apply for it one month earlier before your trip.
