What time do people roughly watch the lanterns?

And when place them in the river as we have a flight the night of the lantern festival at midnight and was wondering if we will still be able to see some of it.

Generally, when the night comes, people will lighten the lanterns and release lanterns in the river. If your flight departs in the late night, you still have a chance to see it.

Normally, we will watch the lanterns on January 15th of lunar year. But actually you can watch lanterns during the spring festival.
