About:China Visa on Arrival

My airline changed my flight 1 business day before departure. Layover is 24 hours plus 5 hours.

Can I apply for a visa on arrival when my airline changes my flight 1 business day before departure and the layover is now 29 hours (24 plus 5)?

If I am unable to apply or they do not grant it, am I simply required to stay at the airport and continue on with the next leg of my trip which departs at 29 hours from when I arrived?

I am a U.S. citizen. My wife is a Thai citizen with a U.S. green card (permanent resident card).

Certain ports of entry offer 72 or 144-hour free transit for U.S. citizens, but your wife is not eligible and must get a transit G type entry permit PRIOR TO ARRIVAL given your transit time in China is greater than 24 hours. Likewise, you also need to obtain a transit G type entry permit if you are not entering China from one of the designated ports. Hence, she will definitely need a Chinese visa, and not having the correct documentations will result in the denial of transport or deportation from China.

Also you CANNOT stay in the airport for that long, since every passenger in transit needs to go through immigration and customs (unless you are transiting at Beijing Capital Intl Airport).

1. Does the fact that the Chinese airline changing the flight one business day prior to departure, which results in the 24 + 5 layover and which makes it impossible to get documentation in advance of the departure, qualify as an emergency situation for my Thai wife's application on arrival?

2. If no application on arrival is allowed, then is she denied taking her booked flight to her final destination in Thailand?
