My family is joining a cruise with a stopover of 8 hrs at Sanya, China.

Do we need to secure avisa for this?

If the ship will sail to a third country or region rather than the last one you come from after 8-hour layover in Sanya, you may be able to use the 24 hour direct transit in Sanya, but just to play safe, you’d better contact with the cruise ship company to confirm that.
