About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Way around transit visa / third country limitation

Thank you for your reply to my first question! So, if I have a return ticket I am not eligible but I am wondering if I can:
1. keep my original Taiwan - Shanghai return ticket
2. book a single ticket to a 3rd country e.g. HK just to show on arrival in Shanghai to get the 72hr free transit
3. cancel the single ticket to HK and then
3. return to Taiwan on my original scheduled flight
what do you think? (I have a Netherlands passport)

It´s a good idea if you like to get in trouble with the chinese law.
Your flight details are stored at the immigration and if you cancel your flight to the 3rd country to return to Taiwan you need a really good excuse for this as you stay illegal in China.

Sorry but I don´t understand people like you who wanna cheat.

Fair enough. I'm just exploring all options. Sometimes bureaucracy breeds creativity and though YOU may look down on this approach these loopholes are often known about and tolerated by the powers that be. No need to be so judgy but I take your point, believe it or not, I do actually prefer to do things the right way too!
