Hi, i want to get more info regarding the octopus card in Hong Kong.

My husband and i will be visiting HK soon, and regarding the card, do i just buy one, load it with money, and every time we get on the train or bus i just scan it twice for the two of us? Or do we each need a card? And does the 3 day express travel pass include taking the mtr to Tung Chung station in order to visit Lantau Island, or is that one of the restricted zones?

Each of you have to hold one. When buying the card, there is a certain amount of value. You can top it up anytime you wanna reload. The travel pass includes all mtr lines so that you can sure use it to head for Lantau Island.

Should i just buy the travel pass when we arrive? Then when the 3 days are done, then i recharge it? Does it cover all mtr and buses and trams?

Hi, dear! You can buy an Airport Express Travel Pass when you arrive. Apart from one/two rides on Airport Express train, it includes 3 consecutive days of unlimited travel on MTR (except East Rail Line First Class, Lo Wu and Lok Ma Chau stations), Light Rail and MTR Bus (Northwest New Territories).

If you want to use it on MTR, buses, trams, taxis, ferries, etc., just top it up when you buy it. Have a nice trip! ;)
