layover in guangzhou for 13

Question

The last time I had a layover in Taipei, I got a visa and got on the taxi and went out to eat, but coming back to the airport I was having a problem trying to find a taxi, I guess you have to call them to pick you up, but since they don't speak English and I had no way to call I got stuck for 30mins, so will I run into these problems again if I wanted to leave the airport to explore Guangzhou for a couple of hrs? And it'll be after 10pm.

It depends on where you will call the taxi. Generally it is easy to get a taxi in downtown area around 10pm. However, you are suggested to take subway line 3 directly to the airport. The subway is available until 11pm.
