13 Hour Layover - Luggage Claim?

Hello!

we have a 13 Hour layover in Beijing Airport from around 2 pm to 3 am. We would love to see some of Beijing City in that time. Do we have to claim our luggage to go outside of the airport or is it possible to keep the luggage transfer as it is normally (automatic change to connecting flight, withouth luggage claim) and still visit the city for a few hours?
If we'd have to claim our luggage and then check it in again, it would probably take too much time to get everything checked in security again, so there would be no time to go to the city as it is a 1.5 h ride. Thank you for your answer!

Greetings,
Kira

Kira, if you have booked your ticket as a single booking (single ticket) and not two separate bookings, your luggage will be tagged all the way from your original point to the final point and they will remain at the supervision of the Beijing airport luggage handlers. In other words, when you hand it during your check-in in, for example, Europe, you will not have to do anything with your luggage until your final destination in, for example, Thailand. In other words, you can exit from the airport immediately as you clear the formalities without thinking about your luggage. Just for your information... Upon landing in Beijing you will find arrival cards that you will fill out. You will then proceed to the automatic fingerprinting machine and you will take a receipt. If you are the citizen of Germany, you will then proceed to the immigration and then to the city to enjoy some time on your own. German citizens do not need to approach 24/240 hour visa free transit. Have a nice journey.
