About:Chinese Embassy in Switzerland

Year end holidays in Shanghai and Hong Kong

Dear Sirs,

I am flying with my friend to Shanghai for a week in December/ beginning of January and after that we take the internal flight to Hong Kong where we stay for another week. I have the Greek passport (GR) and he has the Italian (IT) one. Could you please clarify if we need visa for either destination and if so how will we get it/how long it takes? We both live in Switzerland and are based in Bern.

Many thanks
Best regards
Irene

Irene, how long will you stay in Shanghai? If you fly from Switzerland to Shanghai, stay for less than 144 hours, and then fly to HK, you don't need the entry permit for both destinations. I think this is the best choice for u.

Hello,

Thank you very much for the reply. We are staying in Shanghai from 27/12 early morning until 1/1 evening and then from 1/1 to 5/1 to Hong Kong. Is it still ok to be without Visa?

Many thanks
Regards
Irene

Yes, you qualify for the 144h free transit.

Apparently the embassy DID ask for a VISA. My recommendation would be to visit the embassy if possible to avoid any risk. Irene
