About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

72 Hour Visa For Shanghai Via Beijing

I am a Canadian citizen and I would like to spend a few days in Shanghai on the 72 hour free transit. The airline flies from Toronto to Beijing (2 hour layover) and then connects to Shanghai. After 2 days I have another ticket to Taipei. Can I use the 72 free transit in Shanghai, even though I first arrive in China via Beijing?

Joey, no, you cannot use the 72 hour free transit in Shanghai because you also have a stopover in Shanghai. You need to apply for a tourist L type or transit G type beforehand.
