About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Different airlines, repeating the exercise in reverse

I plan to travel from Brisbane to Shanghai with Cathay Pacific, and then stay in Shanghai for 72 hours and then fly with a totally different airline, probably All Nippon Airways to Osaka. Will this qualify for the 72 hour visa? the 144 hour free transit? What about then after a couple of weeks in Japan if I return the same route, All Nippon Airways to Shanghai...will I then qualify for a second 72 hour free transit? or even 144 hour free transit? If I cant get it twice, can I still get it once on such an itinerary?

Brendan, it will qualify for the 72/144 hour free transit in Shanghai.
When you return, you can also enjoy the 72/144 hour free transit if your layover time in Shanghai is less than 144 hours.
