round trip ticket for over 6 days but not actually staying in pvg the entire time

Question

It is cheaper for me to buy a round trip direct flight between YVR and PVG, but I am not planning to stay in Shanghai for the entire duration - want to stay for 4 days then take a short trip to Taiwan, fly back to Shanghai then take the flight home to YVR.Will this work with the 144 hour rule?

Teresa, so your travel route will be like Canada-Shanghai (4 days)-Taiwan-Shanghai (2 days)-Canada? If yes, you will be able to enjoy the 144 hour free transit for both transits in Shanghai. Nice trip!
