About:Chinese Etiquette

How to greet Chinese teenagers?

Daughter & son in law adopted 13 year old who only speaks mandarin. Do we greet with hug,bow, shake hands? We just want her to feel welcome and loved. P.S. We do Not speak Mandarin

Jeannie, you can give them a big hug to show your welcome. Treat them with your sincere heart and they can feel it.

Since she speaks Mandarin and you don't maybe try to learn a little bit so you understand what she wants. Do you have anyone else in your family that speaks Mandarin? If you do, they could serve as a translator. If you don't know how the Chinese behave and act, maybe do some reseach to make her feel more welcome? Start with simple questions such as do you speak english in mandarin, don't worry, there's an app where you can download and study mandarin. Maybe even show the cards to her so she knows whaf your trying to say. Hope this helps...😊💞
