Malaysian passport, Australian resident transiting in Shanghai for 9 hours

Hi, I'm travelling to Europe in December and transiting Shanghai on the way back to Sydney. Transiting in Shanghai for 9 hours but would like to go out into town. Do I qualify for the 72 hour visa exemption?

Dom, you don’t qualify for the 72 hour free transit there because of your nationality, but you can make use of the 24 hour direct transit. You can just apply for a free temporary stay permit at Shanghai airport and then you can go out into downtown area.
