What is the requirements to get a Chinese tourist visa?

My Canadian fiance that is working as an English teacher in China and he wants me to visit here next month,what is the requirements to get a tourist or visit visa there?and how long should i stay there if its my first time? Im applying to get Chinese Visa next week and planning to go in China on Nov 17-30,how long does it takes to get a visa.
And the Embassy told me i can only stay there for 14 days first entry

You need to prepare those documents containing the application form, a half-length color photo, an invitation letter from your fiancé, proof of your financial standing, and your passport and copy of its data page.
If the embassy told you that you can only get 14-day stay duration, I’m afraid that’s it, but you can try to apply for an extension and stay longer after you enter PRC. The extended time won’t be longer than the original stay duration.
