About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Flying to Shanghai in 8hrs

I'm in panic mode because I don't know if I am suppose to pre apply for a non transit visa or just show up to the airport and notify them. The airline I'm taking is impossible to get a hold of. I don't know what to do. Has anyone just gone to the airport and told the carrier that they would be doing the transit free to Shanghai?

Karen, after staying in Shanghai airport for 8 hours, if you will go to a third country or region instead of the last one you fly from, you will qualify for the 24 hour direct transit there and then you don’t need to apply for a visa.
