Can I apply for a 72 hour transit visa in Beijing?

My plane, leaving from Germany lands at Beijing 10.50am on the Tuesday and leaves at 0.25 on the Saturday. Can I apply for 72 hour free transit at the airport? I am returning to NZ. I have a New Zealand Passport.

Elizabeth, your layover exceeds the 72-hour limit, so it's risky to go without a China entry permit. Maybe you can go to the airport before Saturday to make use of this policy, but I'm not sure whether this works. You can contact Beijing Airport Immigration Inspection at 0086-10-56095400 to confirm this.
