About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

I have a 10 yr china visa. My 23 yr old son and I want to go to shanghai.

My son doesn't have an entry permit but has a passport. We leave Chicago O'hare and fly to Dallas to Shanghai. We arrive on a Thursday at 4 :30 pm. On Sunday we fly at 6 pm from Shanghai to Chicago. Does my son need an entry permit. Thank you so much.

Richard, because your son will fly back to US after staying in Shanghai, your son cannot enjoy the free transit in Shanghai. He needs to apply for a tourist L type entry permit ahead of time.
