About:China Visa Application in USA

Need to pay for a visa two years later.

If the price of US citizens visa is the same price. Why don't everyone apply for the 10 year one? What are the drawbacks? I obtained a one year Chinese entry permit for a cruise in 2014. Now I must pay the same price. If I would have purchased a 10 year entry permit in 2014, I would not have to pay again. Is there a difference in the entry permits?
I will only be visiting Shanghai and Beijing.

You can apply for a 10-year one if you want to avoid troubles in future application.
If possible, you can just try to apply for a 10-year one and the biggest difference between 10-year one and one-year type is that you don’t need to apply for a new entry permit in the next 10 years if you can get a 10-year one.
