My passport in expiring in August next year !I am currently living in Shanghai

can I renew my passport by post?or do I have to go all the way to Beijing to do it?I hope there will be an option to apply by post just like all the other ambassies of the world do!It will save us a lot of time,money and energy! Thank you for replying to my question!
