About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Are we eligible to get a 144 hour free waiver once we arrive in Shanghai?

My husband & I are travelling with Celebrity Cruise Lines in January 2017 from Hong Kong to Shanghai one of the stops on the way to Shanghai is Taiwan
We do not have any other stops in China except Shanghai.
We are staying in a confirmed Shanghai hotel for 3 nights then fly to Dubai and have confirmed airline tickets
We have uk passports

Or do we need to obtain a 2 year Chinese visa before our trip?

Barbara, if so, you are eligible to use the 144 hour free transit in Shanghai. You don’t need to apply for a 2-year entry permit for PRC then.
