About:Chinese Embassies and Consulates

UK passport. I'm flying direct from London to Shanghai and transisiting in Shanghai to HK.

I would like to stay in Shanghai for 24hrs during my transit before heading to Hong Kong? Does this qualify under the rules of 72hr waiver policy. Does Hong Kong count as a third region?

Yes, Hong Kong can count as a third region, so you qualify for the free transit rules.
