taking ferry to hk airport with checked luggage, can i spend the day in hk?

My flight is midnight, if I catch ferry from Shekou to HK airport in the morning, can I get out of airport and spend the day in HK? Do I pay departure tax again? thanks in advance

I am sorry that you cannot leave the airport. You needn't pay departure tax again. The ferry route is a totally closed channel, which can reach the boarding gate of HKIA directly without passing HK Immigration Authority. If you want to visit downtown HK, you may take a ferry to HK Macau Ferry Terminal. Tour around the city, and then take Airport Express or city bus to HKIA. :)
