Hi, I am a South African living in Dubai (UAE). I am traveling to Cambodia via Guangzhou

and have a 20hour lay-over. Can I leave the airport to explore the city during this time or should South Africans apply for a tempory visa?

You are eligible to the 24h visa-free transit policy. Just apply for a stay permit upon arrival and you can leave the airport. You needn't apply for a visa. Don't worry! :)
