is it possible to study on a family reunion residence permit?

Question

I've been living with my Chinese wife in China for a couple of years on a family reunion entry permit. I'm aware that emplyment is not allowed on such a visa but as I've nothing else to do, I got the opportunity of studying for a year at of the universities here and I'd like to take it as I can't work on this type of residence permit. I was wondering if it's allowed to study as it's not emplyment or business. Thank you

Joe, I’m afraid you need to apply for a student X type for your study in PRC and it is possible for you to change your Q type to X type within PRC.
