About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

can I get 72-hour visa free in Beijing?

Flying from Vientiane, Laos. Would like to stop in Beijing for the weekend before flying back home to Paris.
China Eastern flight Vientiane --> Beijing has me change planes in Kunming ChangShui (China) + I would be booking my flight onwards to Paris with a different plane company. Am I still eligible for the 72-hour exemption?

Moya, because you will stop in both Kunming and Beijing, I’m afraid you cannot enjoy the 72 hour free transit in Beijing. You need to apply for a transit G type or tourist L type ahead of time.

John, thank you for your answer. So I can't be eligible for the exemption just because I get to change planes in an other airport before getting to Beijing?? (I am not planning on on leaving the airport at Kunming, it's just a 2 hour connection...)

Sorry Joe (and not John - I read your name too quickly)!

I did not mention the fact that before Laos, I will have been staying in Thailand. Will this prevent me from getting a visa exemption (if I manage to find a direct flight from Vientiane to Beijing)?

Exact traveling itinerary : France (where I come from) then Thailand for two months (where I am now), Laos for three weeks or so, 72-hour transit in Beijing back to France...

I hope all this is clear.

Thank you in advance for your help!
