About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

We will be travelling to our son who is resident in Shanghai in April 2017.

We are going from London Heathrow to Bangkok (stay some days) and from Bangkok to Shanghai, staying for 6 days and then returning to London Heathrow. Will this satisfy the 6 day non-visa requirement assuming that we get an invitation to visit from our Son and also register with the Shanghai local police station to register our stay. Anything else to do?

It will satisfy the 144 hour free transit in Shanghai. You just need to inform the airline that you want to use the free transit in Shanghai when boarding the plane at Bangkok airport. After arrival at Shanghai airport, you can follow the direction signs to transit counter and apply for the free transit.
