is there an expiration for using octopus card?

I bought the card in 2012 but didn't ask for a refund and kept it as a souvenir. This coming October, I will HK again. Do I need to buy a new card or just reload the old one?

Well, the card will be deactivated. But you can go to any Customer Service Centre at MTR stations to have it reactivated free of charge. Then, you can add value to it. You needn't buy a new one. :)
