About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Who changes the plane ticket????

If I have a flight with a stayover of 4hrs between flts, and I want to take advantage of the 144 visa-free offer in Shanghai, do I have to chg my flt departure date? or does the airline chg it for me at no charge???

You need to ask the airline to change the date and I’m not sure if it will charge for you.

The problem with that is this:
You go ahead and chg the flt date. The airline dings you a penalty for the change, and any increase in airfare!
There is no guarantee you will get the entry permit!
So you arrive and don't get the entry permit - and you live in the airport for 6 days!!!
Too risky...
