Visiting boyfriend working in China, Tourist visa or S2 type for spouses?

I'd like to visit my boyfriend who is working in China, should I apply for a tourist type (L) or spouse type of someone working in China (S2)? We are not married or engaged so not technically a "spouse" in the truest sense.
