About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

transit visa 72 hrs for joining ship from shanghai,possible??

my friend(a Russian national), works for a cruise company and will joining the assigned ship from shanghai, tentatively in the last week of Sept 2016, and i will really thankful if someone can tell me about the free transit for 72 hrs and direct transit for 24 hrs.the agents are asking him have an entry permit prepared beforehand,but i read this somewhere and needed some clarity on this..so i can help him out.

Kirti, if he will enter and exit by the same ship, he may need to apply for an entry permit in advance. He’d better contact with the cruise ship and confirm that.

the thing is he will be flying to shanghai and as of now he would be joining the ship the very next day of his arrival. I was wondering is it possible to have a 72 hrs transit visa,instead of having a normal visa beforehand.. The cmpny is asking to get a " c (crew visa)+f (bussiness visa) visa". If a "f visa" required?

Kirti, if your firend wants to use the free transit policy in Shanghai, he should have a confirmed ticket for the cruise ship, so I'm afraid he can't use it. In my opinion, he only need to apply for crew visa.
