Out of Pages, New Passport Coming, Advice on Next Steps

Hello. Thanks for you advice. I live in Qingdao and work as a teacher.

I am needing a new passport because I am running out of pages. I will go mid October to Beijing and pick up in November. Must I submit my new passport at the local police station and get an entirely new residency permit once I get the new passport (which would take many weeks to get back and I would not be able to travel over Thanksgiving) , or can I travel with both passports until the end of this school year when I'll renew.

Secondly, if I book a flight right now to Korea using my current passport number, will I be able to board using my new passport and passport number (I will also have the 'canceled' passport too with me, holding my valid visa and work permit)?

Thank you!

Jay, you can travel with both passports.
Don’t worry! You are able to board the plane by taking both passports as long as the information on both passports is exactly the same.

Thank you! Do I need to get my residency permit transferred to my new passport or just update the police station with my new passport number?

In order to avoid troubles, you are advised to transfer the residence permit to the new passport.

Hi, Jay.

What was the outcome with this?

I'm currently in China and I have my new passport ready for collection tomorrow.
However... I received an email from the collection office which states that I must transfer the old residency permit/visa into my new passport within 10days of it's issue date, or face a possible fine of 500 yuan per day for every over, up to a maximum of 10,000 yuan.

I'm leaving China in July and thought it would have been ok just to keep both passports for immigration purposes.
