About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

12 hours of stop in Xi An

My girlfriend and I have a 12hr stop over in Xi An Xianyang Airport. We would like to visit terracotta warriors.
Do we get automaticly a 72 hours transit visa or do I have to ask for it?
How long does it take to get through in/out the airport control?
How long does it take to get there by buses or taxies? When is the first bus to get there?
We arrive at 5.10 a.m.

Fabio, you can enjoy the free transit in Xian airport. But because you just stop there for 12 hours, you may be given the 24 hour direct transit. In this case, you need to apply for a free temporary stay permit at the immigration officer if you want to leave the airport.
It doesn’t take much time to go through in/out the airport control.
Taking bus may take 8 hours or so for a round trip, and you just have 12 hours, I’m afraid it is too tight. You are advised to go there by taxi because it may just take 2 hours or so for a round trip, but it may cost a little more.
Also, please note that you should arrive at the airport 2 hours ahead of time.
