Renew HKSAR passports in Singapore

Hi, my son"s passport will be expiring in August 2017. When can we apply for renewal of the passports?

Ma, you can apply for the renewal when the passport is not valid for a year.

Thank you for the info, its much appreciated as its near impossible to contact the embassy and I do not want to make a wasted trip.
