I decide to go Harbin West. Shall I take Gaotie travel directly from SY Railway Station for boarding and not from North Railway Station?

No! High speed trains depart from the Main Railway Station, South Railway Station, or North Railway Station. If you plan to go to Harbin West, you can take a high speed train from any of the three stations. ;)
