so just when I was planning to apply for the visa, I heard from some people that we need invitation letter and all. Is it compulsory to have that? Or I can still apply for the entry permit? Help me:)

You can apply for a tourist L type to enter PRC and visit your friend. The invitation is not necessary if you can provide the transportation and accommodation arrangements. Of course, even if it is required, your friend can issue the invitation letter to you. So don’t worry!
