I will import currency (gold).

What do I declare, the face value or the metal value? How would this change if intended as gifts?

As I know, they should be taxed by the purchase price of the day not the face value. The situation should be the same as gifts. But it is still advised you contact the customs to get a certain answer. Good luck!
