Canadian applying from Thailand

I am Canadian citizen currently travelling in southeast asia (now in Thailand). I can't really send my passeport to canada as I am constantly moving. Does anyone know a way I could get a tourist visa to China ?
Would it help if I have a friend in China that I go visit ?

Yes, you can apply for it from Thailand. It helps if you have a friend in China. You can ask the person to send you an invitation letter to facilitate your application process.
