About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Conditions for Application

1. Passengers should hold an onward ticket with a confirmed seat and date as well as a valid visa to a THIRD country

Does this mean you cannot use the 144 hour free transit when flying directly in and out of Shanghai from the same location?

Crab, yes, if you fly back to the country you fly from after stopping in Shanghai, it is not a transit, so you cannot enjoy the free transit then.
