About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Chicago to Shanghai to Osaka

Hello! I have a 14-hour layover in Shanghai, then flying to Osaka. Do I need a visa to leave the airport or do I qualify for the 144-hr free transit? Do I need to leave Shanghai airport for the 14-hr layover or can I just find a place to sleep inside the airport?

You qualify for the free transit in Shanghai. You may be required to apply for a free temporary stay permit at the immigration office and then you can leave the airport to the city for a visit.
